At the Town Council Annual General Meeting last week, the outgoing Mayor, Councillor Warren Taylor, was elected to return to the role for a record fourth time.

Delighted by the decision, Mayor Taylor said, "The last year has been historically significant as residents commemorated national events and changes to the Throne. I felt humbled when invited to local events and experienced the true spirit of togetherness during a time of immense change.

 

Mayor Taylor continued, "The next 12 months will affect the landscape and fortunes of Blyth for decades to come. The development of the Northumberland Line, a £70 million regeneration programme with training facilities, improved streets, and a marketplace cultural hub (and cinema) are all positives for the town.

 

Despite these welcome developments, it’s important to remember that, like many towns in our country, many people in Blyth are struggling with the cost-of-living crisis. Our Foodbank and other food agencies are working flat out to help those most in need, and as Mayor, I’ll be doing everything I can to support these organisations.”

Mayor Taylor is joined by Councillor Aileen Barrass, who replaces Councillor Kath Nisbet as Deputy Mayor.
