A Northumberland man has been fined for fly-tipping his household waste illegally following an investigation by Northumberland County Council.

Lee Michael Gudgin,41, of Burnside, Bedlington, Northumberland pleaded guilty at Newcastle Magistrates Court on Friday 7th July of Fly-Tipping his household waste at Delaval Terrace, Blyth after he moved house.  

He was sentenced to a fine of £1,000 reduced to £666 for an early guilty plea for the offence, ordered to pay £639.28 in costs and a victim surcharge of £266 - a total financial penalty of £1,572.28.

During November 2022 Northumberland County Council received reports that a large amount of household waste had been fly-tipped on the street at Delaval Terrace in Blyth.

Officers from the council’s Environmental Enforcement Team went to investigate and had it removed from the area.
Gudgin, who was identified as the culprit attended an interview under caution and fully admitted the offence stating that he had issues getting the waste taken away and before he could organise a collection Northumberland County Council had removed it.  

Northumberland County Councillor Gordon Stewart, Cabinet member for Looking After our Communities said:
“No matter what the waste, or the reasons behind it, fly-tipping is a very serious offence because of the damage it causes to the environment, as well as the cost to the taxpayer of clearing and disposing of the waste.

“This latest successful prosecution is the result of the council’s ongoing zero tolerance approach to fly tipping.”
